Before you proceed

Start with the questions you would ask a stranger.

Is Recover and Retain a real company?

Recover and Retain LLC is a New Mexico domestic limited liability company, entity ID 0008130970, effective September 18, 2026. Its principal and mailing address is 1209 Mountain Road Pl NE, Ste R, Albuquerque, NM 87110, and its registered agent is Registered Agents Inc. You can search the New Mexico Secretary of State business register. You should still independently verify the communication and the underlying government property record.

Is Recover and Retain part of the government?

No. Recover and Retain LLC is an independent private company. It is not the government agency holding the property and does not claim government endorsement.

Why did you contact me?

We may identify a possible connection between a property record and an individual or business. The exact basis depends on the record and your circumstances. Ask us for the property information included in the communication and verify it independently.

How did you find my information?

The answer can depend on the property record, available public or commercial information, and the circumstances of the contact. Ask what information was used and why we believe it may relate to you. A contact does not mean ownership or eligibility is confirmed.

How do I know the property exists?

Identify the government agency or official database named in the communication and use its own public search or verification process. Recover and Retain is not the agency that holds the property.

Can I verify it myself?

Generally, yes. You can usually check the relevant official government unclaimed-property program or agency directly. The process and available search tools vary by jurisdiction.

Can I claim the property myself?

Yes. Eligible owners can generally file directly with the relevant government agency. If you do so, you remain responsible for preparing and supporting your own claim.

What work do I have to do if I claim it myself?

Government agencies may provide instructions, forms, FAQs, or general assistance. If you claim directly, you remain responsible for:

  • determining the required documents
  • obtaining the supporting evidence
  • preparing the forms
  • arranging notarization where required
  • submitting the claim
  • responding to requests for additional evidence or documentation
Why would I use Recover and Retain if I can claim it myself?

Some owners prefer help with research, identifying documents, preparing the claim package, coordinating signatures, arranging a mobile notary, and assisting with follow-up. The service is optional, and the government agency still decides the claim.

Do I need a notary?

Whether notarization is required depends on the government agency, claim, owner type, and documents requested. Follow the relevant agency’s instructions. For the California claims Recover and Retain accepts, we arrange the mobile notary for the claimant.

Do I have to find the notary myself?

Not if Recover and Retain is handling your California claim. We arrange a mobile notary to meet you at a convenient time and location.

What size claims does Recover and Retain handle?

Recover and Retain generally focuses on larger California claims, typically $10,000 or more. This is our service threshold, not a government eligibility threshold.

What does the service cost?

Fees and payment arrangements depend on the applicable state and claim. The agreed fee is disclosed in writing before you sign. Start with the California or New York recovery journey for the applicable explanation.

Are there upfront fees?

No upfront fees. You do not pay Recover and Retain before a successful recovery. We are paid only after a successful recovery. This is our business policy, not a law applying to every US state.

Who actually holds the money?

The relevant government agency or program holds the property. Recover and Retain does not hold government unclaimed property.

Who pays the recovered property?

Where a claim is approved, payment is made according to the process of the relevant government agency. Recover and Retain does not decide how or when the agency pays.

Does Recover and Retain guarantee recovery?

No. We do not guarantee eligibility, recovery, payment, claim approval, or timing. The government agency reviews the evidence and makes its own decision.

What information will I need to provide?

Requirements vary by claim and jurisdiction. We will explain what information appears relevant. Do not send Social Security numbers, passport details, driver's license details, bank details, or full dates of birth through an ordinary public form or initial email.

Why might a corporate claim need additional documentation?

A corporate claim may involve former business names, mergers, acquisitions, dissolved entities, successor relationships, historical addresses, authorized representatives, or other records. The relevant agency determines what evidence it requires.

What happens if the claim is not approved?

We do not guarantee recovery. The outcome, documentation, and any service terms depend on the claim and the written arrangement you review. Ask what happens if the government agency rejects or does not approve a claim before agreeing to assistance.

How can I verify that a communication came from Recover and Retain?

Check the sending domain, compare the company details with this website, and contact leif@recoverandretain.com using a new message. Do not rely only on the reply address if you are unsure. You can also use the verification guide.
